The mistakes of past generations creating toy-guns, are being paid by our generation and still, will be paid by our children. Any kid that grows up playing with toy-guns will likely become a “real gun” owner when he or she grows up.
A firearm is nothing more than an instrument to kill, to hunt an animal or to take another human’s life. A pistol is not an instrument to hunt, is a lethal weapon destined to destroy another human being, something that should not be considered as funny and amusing.
The possibility of correcting the errors from past generations is now in own hands and the hands of those who we select as leaders for our society, those who under our democratic system are selected to serve and protect, from the smallest city commission all the way to the White House. If our leaders fail to do their duty, our society will pay the consequences and so will our futures generations.
We believe that having two of our Kent County Commissioners (Dean Agee and Gary Rolls) promoting a shooting demonstration featuring many rare lethal firearms, even more, showing a few war instruments that were utilized during World War II and the sadly remembered “Cold War” that followed, and filled our planet with sorrow for many decades.
According to a first page article published by The Grand Rapids Press last August 23rd, various families from Evart were terrorized as strayed bullets from Agee’s shooting demonstration impacted their homes. According to The Press, Commissioner Rolls was among the organizing group for this event.
We believe that in order to have a sane society we need healthy leaders, and promoting violence and the use of firearms is not part of that.
Hopefully these Commissioners will revise themselves and will assume the responsibility that society placed upon them.
